Inside "Filming, Photos, Press"

Filming, Photos, Press
|

If you are on assignment in East Africa as a
journalist, photographer, film/video producer, media researcher or
book author, you will need a special permit! The process can be
time-consuming and expensive.
 |
There are hardly any guidelines and the rules change
often. If you do it wrong your project will sink! |
 |
Kiliwarrior Expeditions can help! Unlike most
outfitters, we've actually been through the process of obtaining
permits for clients - we know how to do this right. |
 |
In addition, you need the support of a full-service
outfitter who can supply you with everything from scouting reports to
down-converters to adapted vehicles. |
 |
Aerial filming and/or photography require charter
aircraft. We have access to 6 different charter companies. |
 |
From Hollywood motion pictures to newspaper travel
writing, we have access to everything you need! |
If you are an amateur photographer/videographer,
you do not need permits but you still need help!
 |
You need a knowledgeable guide who enjoys photography |
 |
You need a vehicle that permits free movement |
 |
You need a sensible itinerary that support your
interests |
 |
You need a full compliment of technology equipment
(such as charging devices, beanbags, etc) and research materials (such
as wildlife reference books). |

Special Permits |
Filming or
Professional Photography in Tanzania requires a special permit from
the Prime Ministers Office, Dar es Salaam. However, before this
application will be considered here you need to get approval for the
project from the Tanzanian Ambassador in the USA. We will contact the
Ambassador on your behalf once we receive the following info:
PERMIT:
1 - Organization / company name and address.
2 - Brief (one page) description of the project.
3 - How will this film / photo material be used? TV, Commercial,
Magazine, Print AD, etc.
4 - List of all participants coming to Tanzania for this project,
names, addresses, passport numbers, date of issue, date of expiry,
place of issue, and role in the project.
5 - Itinerary / list of areas to be visited / people to be
interviewed. Make this list as comprehensive as possible
– you don’t
have to go to all the places listed, but it’s complicated & time
consuming (though not impossible) to add locations once you’re here. -
We will complete this part so you can ignore it.
NOTE: In some cases you will be required to have an official
accompany you during your filming, but they are not keen to climb
Kilimanjaro for example so we will make alternative arrangements!
EQUIPMENT:
Customs Waiver
To obtain a Customs Waiver for equipment being brought into the
country temporarily we need a complete list with estimated values.
Ideally this is obtained 3 weeks in advance. Please send as an EXCEL
spreadsheet attachment.
Clearing & Forwarding
You will need a local Clearing & Forwarding Agent to process the
paperwork for the importation and re-exportation of your equipment.
With a Customs Waiver, no bonds are required, but appropriate
documentation has to be worked up by a locally registered agent. We
will do this paperwork for you based on your spreadsheet.
Equipment volume
To plan for appropriate transfer vehicles and porterage we will
also need the number, rough dimensions, and weight of all equipment
boxes / trunks. |
